I'm a litle obsessed...

So, I've posted on the SUNY Delhi Student Activities blog, my facebook, and (later today I"m sure) my twitter about http://wordsmith.org/anagram/index.html and I can't get enough of it. It's too funny! For example, you can't spell "The Empire Strikes Back" without "Emphatic Beer Trek Kiss." Classic.

Oops, missed a day!

Part of this exercise is to see if I can make the commitment to update on a daily basis...6/7 isn't too bad. Everyone needs a day off from time to time. I spent mine watching The Rock, 12 Monkeys, and Brazil. Can you name the connectors between the movies? If you said David Morse (see him also in The Negotiator) and Terry Gilliam respectively, then you are a movie nerd like me! I find that a lot of times I do this on purpose, but sometimes I'll just realize that there are 3-4 actors from the movie I just watched in the one I am currently watching. Weird, huh?!?

Anyway, we're jammin' today, so that makes like grand!

Happy Birthday Mel Brooks

I've watched a lot of movies this weekend, and I would say that any of them that made me laugh had some sort of influence by Mel Brooks. Today he is 83! That is getting up there, but he's still on fire!
Anyway, here are my top 5 Mel movies:

1. Young Frankenstein
2. Blazing Saddles
3. The Producers
4. Spaceballs
5. Robin Hood: Men in Tights

Of course I love Silent Movie, History of the World, High Anxiety, etc. but these really crack me up every time!

A quick thank you

I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey last night, and I've had Eyes Wide Shut and Dr. Strangelove on today as I've been going around the house. These are all excellent movies, but without a great English professor I had at MTSU, I might not have ever had an appreciation for the films of Stanley Kubrick. So, here's to Jimmy Cain, the man who introduced me to Kubrick. Thanks Jimmy!

A little jealous!

So, as we were waiting for Ian Hunter to start playing tonight, I pulled up the list of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees on my phone and asked my boss Marty who he had seen live in concert. Once I had blasted through the list, I think he had seen 75% of the total list and 90% of those that weren't dead before he was going to shows.

I've seen Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Aerosmith, and half of Zeppelin. That is not 75%. But it made me wonder who I have seen that might be in Cleveland eventually. So, here are some of the future HOFer's...in my opinion:

Pearl Jam

Smashing Pumpkins (I only saw Jimmy Chamberlain and Billy Corgan, but it counts!)

Which only makes me want to see Weezer, Radiohead, Coldplay, Muse, John Mayer, NIN, GNR, and Green Day before it's too late, because I would imagine they are all going in eventually.

Anyway, the point is go to good shows, because you never know what amazing music you will get turned on to...I am now an Ian Hunter fan!!

What's Good?

I'm taking my little red baby in to have her 60,000 mile check-up today, amongst other mechanical investigations. It's cool to think of all the places I've been over that mileage span, but I would guess the majority of the miles come from driving to work in one manner or another! But I drove to Chicago dozens of times, the city last summer, Delhi twice (though I have yet to make the return trip), Tennessee twice, and out to Nebraska. Yeah, I guess I get how I've racked up that many miles!

Anyway, off to see Ian Hunter tonight, should be awesome. Maybe I can simul-tweet/blog/facebook/link-in from the show with all my ridiculous gadget/apps on my iPhone!

I finally sold my soul to technology

Hello blogsphere,

Today I signed up for LinkedIn, Twitter, and Blogger. I already have (and frequently use) Facebook and MySpace, and as we all can now, I check my email about 257 times a day on my phone and computer.

When did technology creep so far into our lives? Don't get me wrong, I love iPhones, DVDs, satellite radio, and the like, but sometimes it just seems like too much. The best part of my day today is when I took my 6-string out on the porch and played some blues. Take that technology.

Anyway, the point of all this connectivity, etc. is to learn how to use these sites so I can be a lean, mean, marketing machine for our fall schedule of programs. If I don't have a single subscriber/follower that will be fine with me, but if you are out there...be patient with me as I try to learn some features to hopefully reach my students in (not so) new, exciting ways!
